The buying public responded well and Mercury took off.

This four door sedan shows the stylish new car off well.

In 1939, Mercury offered a range of body styles that included a convertible, a coupe, a four door sedan and a two door sedan.

They rode on a 116 inch wheelbase and had an overall length of 196 inches. The first Mercurys were powered by a 95 hp V8 engine.

From its perch at the top of the grille, a small painted stylized winged 8 declared the presence of the 8 cylinder engine.

A very attractive hood ornament swept up and over the leading edge of the hood.
