Mercury roared onto the road as a new line of cars for 1939. Ford Motor Co. introduced the Mercury line to fill the price gap between their Ford and Lincoln lines of cars.
The buying public responded well and Mercury took off. This four door sedan shows the stylish new car off well.
In 1939, Mercury offered a range of body styles that included a convertible, a coupe, a four door sedan and a two door sedan.
They rode on a 116 inch wheelbase and had an overall length of 196 inches. The first Mercurys were powered by a 95 hp V8 engine.
From its perch at the top of the grille, a small painted stylized winged 8 declared the presence of the 8 cylinder engine.
A very attractive hood ornament swept up and over the leading edge of the hood.
