1948 Crosley Station Wagon
1948 was Crosley's most
successful year. Production for the year totalled 27,679 cars. The station
wagon was the most popular model in 1948 and was priced at a bit over
$900.00.
Crosley led all other American car companies in the production of steel-bodied
station wagons in 1948.
The panels on the rear quarters of this car have a wicker pattern.
Woodgrain panels may also have been available.
The grill bars and bullet nose on this car identify it as being manufactured
in late 1948, which was the third year for this body style, so the company
tried to "refresh" the look of the cars with the bars and
nose.
Crosley also manufactured a pickup truck, a panel delivery,
a sport utility, and a sedan --
all on the same chassis.
The 1948 Crosley small car with a wheelbase of only 80 inches and an
overall length of just 145 inches. The car rode on very small 4.5 x
12 inch tires.
It still had a had a 4 cylinder, 44 cubic inch, 26.5hp engine. The engine
was connected to a three speed manual transmission.
