1949 was the first year Buick made a 2 door hardtop, a body style they
called the "Riviera".
In later years they would also use the Riviera name to describe 4 door
hardtops. That lasted until 1962, in 1963 the Riviera became a seperate
model line.
But in 1949 Roadmaster was the top of the line, and the Riviera stood
side by side with the convertible as leaders in automotive style and
prestige.
This Riviera was only available in the Roadmaster series in 1949.
The sweep spear side trim seen on this car was introduced later in
the model year.
Riding on a 126 inch wheelbase with a 214 inch overall length, these
were big cars.
