The 57 Chevy was locked in a tight race with Ford for top sales and production honors that year. In the end it seems that Chevy took the top honors for the calendar year and Ford got the top spot for the model year when it came to who built how many. Both of those numbers were over 1,500,000 cars, so the folks at both companies had a busy year.

Ok, on to the fun stuff.

These cars were the result of a stop gap effort to get the newest looking car possible into the showroom for 1957 to compete with all new cars from Ford and Plymouth.

What turned out to be the 1958 Chevy was supposed to be the 57, but when it became clear that it wasn't going to be ready in time a crash program restyled the 56 Chevy as much as quickly reasonable and the result is what we know as the 57 Chevy.
