2 Brothers
and their cars

Above: Kens 1968 VW
Right: Toms 1969 Dodge R/T
A Simple Start
HubcapCafe went online in July of 2000, an effort of myself, Ken Bogren,
and my brother Tom.
Why?
Tom thought it would be nice to have a local online classic car show
calendar so he would have an excuse to drive his 1977 Lincoln MK V.
As usuall, I got completely carried away, and the result is HubcapCafe.com.
Our Cars
The two cars shown on this page pretty much sum up the differences between
us when it comes to cars. The 69 Dodge Coronet R/T is a car Tom bought
new. It wasn't long before it felt right at home at the drag strip near
his home. It is still in his family.
The VW was a project for me. I drove one just like it 10,000 miles in
30 days in 1968. I really don't want to do that again, but it was a
memorable experience, and when I saw this car, I had to have it!
We like all kinds of cars, but basically our taste in the cars we choose
to drive goes like this,
Tom: Big and Fast.
Me: Small and Cheap.
Back To The Website
We cruise the local car shows talking to car owners and taking the pictures
of antique, classic and special interest collector cars you see here.
Of course, we are in Minnesota, so car shows are pretty few and far
between in the winter.
I also try to hit a few more distant shows in the summer.
About Tom's R/T
I should let Tom tell you about this car, but it's more fun to sneak
this stuff in without telling him. He can always straighten the story
out later! Anyhow he got this car new in 1969 and it was one VERY fast
ride. It has a 440 c.i. engine with the 4 barrel carb and an Automatic
transmission. And it's still in the family!
Toms version of the story:
Orginal Owner. Fun car. Speedometer limit 160 mph. The needle will go
past that. First Time I drove it the needle stopped at 80 no matter how
much I pushed her. Oops needle stuck at top dead center. Dealer "shortened"
the tip of the needle. Then I found out pushing down that far got you
to 140 real quick. Crusing speed was 123. Never got a speeding ticket.
My brother did enjoy riding in it. Unless I did the above burnout she
would leave those tracks for 1000 feet through all three gears and turn
the quarter in 22 sec. Normally I was in mid thirteens. Although once
she really hooked and we got a 12.25 at 112. |
